Scholarship

Midwest SOARRING Foundation is pleased to announce our 2018 Janet Standing Bear Scholarship for all students of native ancestry or interest in Native American culture who are pursuing advanced degrees and trades in undergraduate or graduate education in any field. While tribal enrollment or native ancestry is not required, we are interested in applicants who can demonstrate their positive involvement in their community with Native American cultural activities and/or advancing Indigenous concerns.

Midwest SOARRING Foundation assists in repatriation, protection of sacred sites, environmental issues, and educating the public about Native American culture, important to our history and identity. The scholarship amount is $1,000 and will be announced at the 24th Harvest Pow Wow, Sunday, September 23, 2018. The Pow Wow takes place at the Naper Settlement, 523 Webster St., Naperville, IL. The final decision to award the scholarship is at the descretion of the Midwest SOARRING Scholarship Committee.

Interested applicants must fill out the attached Scholarship Application form, obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor, employer, or community service director; submit a 500 word essay as detailed on the application form, and a recent copy of your school transcripts.
